Introduction to TRON

TRON is a decentralized Layer 1 public blockchain network that uses the DPoS (Delegated Proof of Stake) consensus mechanism. With high throughput and low transaction costs, TRON is currently one of the world’s major networks for the circulation and settlement of digital tokens, such as the stablecoin USDT.

TRX is the native token of the TRON network. It is used to pay transaction fees, obtain network resources through staking, and participate in on-chain governance voting.

A wallet is an application that allows you to add a TRON account and conveniently receive, send, and manage TRX, TRC10, and TRC20 tokens, such as USDT.

🔸Adding an Account

Go to My Profile > Manage wallets, tap Add on the right side of the wallet where you want to add an account, then select TRON. After confirming, return to the wallet homepage to access the newly added TRON account.

Buying and Selling TRX

The easiest way to get TRX is to buy it. Most exchanges on the market support TRX trading. You can choose a decentralized exchange or centralized exchange based on your needs.

Using TRON

TRON Network Resource Model

The TRON network uses a resource model based on Bandwidth and Energy to allocate on-chain computing and storage capacity, replacing the traditional model where public chains rely entirely on transaction fees.

  • Bandwidth: Used to transmit and store transaction data. Whether you are transferring TRX or other TRC-standard tokens, each transaction consumes Bandwidth.
  • Energy: Used to run smart contracts in the TRON Virtual Machine (TVM). Regular TRX transfers do not consume Energy. However, transferring TRC20 tokens, such as USDT, or interacting with DApp smart contracts require energy.

Resource Consumption for USDT Transfers

Transferring TRC20 USDT consumes both Bandwidth and Energy. Energy consumption mainly depends on whether the receiving address already has a USDT balance.

This is because when the receiving address has no USDT balance, the contract needs to write a new USDT balance record for that address, which consumes more Energy.

In addition, because TRON uses a dynamic Energy model, the Energy consumption of popular contracts, such as USDT, may change dynamically depending on network conditions. Please refer to the actual on-chain consumption.

Note: The TRON network automatically provides 600 free Bandwidth points to each activated account every day.

How to Get Resources

If your account does not have enough resources when initiating a transfer, the network will burn enough TRX from your account to cover the transaction fee. To reduce transfer costs, you can obtain resources in the following ways:

  • Resource rental: Use a resource rental service, such as the Pay TRX to rent Energy feature provided on imToken’s USDT transfer page, to obtain the Energy required for a transfer by paying a small amount of TRX. Compared with directly burning TRX, this can save around 30% to 40% in transfer costs.
  • Stake TRX: Stake a certain amount of TRX on the network, and the system will allocate Bandwidth or Energy to your account based on your staking weight. You can use TRONSCAN’s official resource calculator to check the real-time staking cost.

How TRON Works

Three-layer architecture: TRON’s underlying architecture consists of the storage layer, which stores blocks and states; the core layer, which includes the smart contract virtual machine, account management, and consensus module; and the application layer, which provides standardized interfaces and supports the DApp development ecosystem.

DPoS consensus: TRON token holders vote to elect 27 Super Representatives. These 27 nodes take turns producing blocks and validating transactions for the entire network, helping the network achieve high TPS, or transactions per second.

TRON Virtual Machine (TVM): TRON has its own execution environment, the TVM, which is highly compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). Developers can use Solidity to develop and migrate smart contracts.

TRX deflation model: TRON adopts a dual-track design of block reward generation and fee burning. All TRX transaction fees burned due to insufficient resources are directly destroyed. When on-chain activity is high and the amount of TRX burned exceeds the amount generated, TRX enters a deflationary state.
