What is Plasma?

Plasma is a Layer 1 blockchain purpose-built for stablecoin payments. It offers stablecoin-native features, is EVM-compatible, and provides high-speed, scalable infrastructure for wallets, payments, and financial applications. Popular apps such as Aave, Curve, and Balancer are already supported.

Plasma’s native token is XPL, used to pay gas fees. Users can also stake XPL to help secure the network and earn rewards.

How it works

Plasma consists of the following core components:

  • PlasmaBFT consensus layer: Built on Fast HotStuff (an improved Byzantine fault-tolerant algorithm). By parallelizing the proposal, voting, and commit phases, it achieves high throughput with confirmations within seconds.
  • EVM execution layer: Compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
  • Native Bitcoin bridge: Brings BTC into an EVM environment for contract interactions, collateral, and cross-asset workflows.
  • Stablecoin-native contracts:
    • Gas-free USDT transfers: Verified users can send USDT gas-free via a built-in payer contract, with fees fully sponsored by the Plasma Foundation.
    • Custom gas tokens: Allows DApps to use approved ERC-20 tokens to pay gas fees.
    • Confidential payments: Privacy-protected stablecoin transfers that conceal transaction details such as amounts, addresses, and memos.

Note: Gas-free USDT transfers, custom gas tokens and confidential payments are not live at the time of writing. Please follow Plasma’s official announcements for updates.

How to use Plasma with imToken?

Creating a Plasma account

To create a Plasma account, navigate to "My Profile" -> "Manage wallets" -> "Add", select the "Plasma" network in the Popular section, and confirm. Then, return to the wallet homepage to access your newly created Plasma account.

Note: The Popular section lists networks that have been accessed most frequently in recent days. If you don’t see the Plasma network there, look under the EVM section.

Receiving and transferring funds

In the Plasma account, you can click "Transfer" or "Receive" and then perform the corresponding operation.

Receiving

Click "Receive ", share the QR code or copy the address and send it to the other party.

Transferring

Click "Transfer", set the type and amount of token you want to transfer, enter the recipient's  address, and then click "Next".

Note: Before making a transfer, please ensure that your account has sufficient XPL to cover the gas fee.
